Pop away – It’s National Popcorn Day!

Popcorn is one of the healthiest snacks and can easily be made dairy free. So get popping today on National Popcorn Day!

This irresistible and simple snack dates back to

Pre-Columbus indigenous times. According to Popcorn.Org, Natives in the West Indies used popcorn for food and decorations. The Aztecs wore popcorn necklaces in 1519 and writings from Peruvian Indians dating back to 1650 detail how they used popcorn.

Popcorn can be a healthy snack, especially if air popped. It’s easy to make and full of beneficial fiber and it’s a must have for movie and TV watching. And it is naturally dairy free!

A perfect dairy free topping for popcorn is melted coconut oil. I also enjoy sprinkling hot sauce on my popcorn. When making popcorn, pop an extra amount and use for snacks and lunches. Throw the popcorn into baggies with nuts, coconut pieces and dried fruit for an easy and portable snack.
