Spreading Awareness of Food Allergies

Trips to Disney in October always center around the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. This year was extra magical because not only did I eat my way around the countries of Epcot, but I attended the FACCWDW Illuminations Dessert Party, held October 18th.

Last November I attended the FACCWDW weekend expo celebrating awareness of food allergies. It was a great event and I was excited to see friends at this year’s event. While not an expo, there were plenty of activities around Disney over a long weekend to bring awareness to food allergies. I attended just the Dessert Party held at Epcot and overlooking the nightly magical Illumination Fireworks show. All of the desserts were free of the Top 8 allergens which meant everyone attending could eat EVRYTHNG! Here’s what the Disney Chefs prepared:

Chocolate Mickey Cake with Pascha Chocolate Sauce and Cherries – VERY rich and gooey

Peach Cobbler with Vegan Whipped Cream – The cobbler was my favorite of the night along with the fresh fruit. Dean said the vegan whipped cream tasted like the real thing.

Liquid Nitrogen Chocolate Truffle with Banana Caramel Sauce – Original idea for sure although I’m still not sure if I liked this one or not

Blueberry Lemon Cake Parfait – These little jars were super cute especially lined up together I thought for sure the jar top was an edible sugared candy and boy was I surprised when I bit into it and it was plastic. Surprised and a little embarrassed.

Chef Dennis showed off his Caramel Apple making abilities — perfect for an October evening so close to Halloween.

The best part of this event was getting together with other food allergy bloggers. It was great visiting again with Alexis from Gluten Free in Orlando and Erica from Celiac and the Beast. I also got the chance to meet Jordan from King Gluten Free and Kathleen from Soul Food. Be sure to check out all of their blogs.
