Wide Menu Variety at Disney’s The Wave

REVIEW: THE WAVE

Note: I was not paid for this review. All menu items were purchased by me. Opinions are my own.

The Wave at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is a great place to stop on your way to and from The Magic Kingdom for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The unique dining room hosts a menu with a wide variety of options perfect for couples dining as well as family dining.

I was intrigued to try The Wave for a while and called ahead to find out if the gnocchi could be made dairy free and vegan. I was told by a chef that was possible, however was quickly disappointed to learn upon arriving that the gnocchi contain all sorts of dairy and none could be made on the spot for me. No explanation was given for why the wrong info was conveyed earlier in the day. As I looked over the menu for something else to eat, Dean ordered the Pork but was told they were already out of it. Hmm, it was only 7pm. I’ve never been told at a Disney restaurant that a menu item wasn’t available.

Dean enjoyed a trio of appetizers including a Harvest Salad, Prince Edward Island Mussels, and a Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. He enjoyed having a variety of foods at his meal and said the flavor was excellent on all three.

Luckily Chef Kimmi arrived at the table and saved the day for my meal. I also enjoyed the Harvest Salad which is very fresh and tasty and then had Breakfast for Dinner. Chef Kimmi was happy to make The Wave’s Signature Sweet Potato Pancakes and they were absolutely delicious! She substituted Maple Syrup for the Pecan Honey Butter and gave me extra pancakes to make up for the meat usually served with the pancakes. Each pancake had a rich sweet potato taste and it was a real treat to eat these for dinner! Chef explained the sweet potatoes are roasted and then the flesh scooped out and put into the pancake batter.

For desert Dean tried the Seasonal Flight – a trio of desserts served in pretty cups. He enjoyed it and said the portion size was perfect!

Here’s one of the trio!

Overall we enjoyed our meal after the initial confusion. Having a chef come to the table is essential for those with food allergies and ensures you will eat safely. Also, when the Chef comes and meets with guests you will find they can often go off the menu and create something delicious and unexpected.
