Coffee 101 on National Coffee Day!


I can’t live without coffee! The look of the beans and the smell of the coffee perking away make mornings so much better

In honor of National Coffee Day – September 29th – here are some facts to help you celebrate our favorite drink today and everyday of the year— and keep reading until the end for a list of freebies and discount and a recipe!

According to legend, shepherds discovered coffee in Ethiopia around 800 A.D. when goat herders noticed the effect caffeine had on their goats. The goats seemed to dance eating coffee berries!

There are two types of coffee beans: Arabica and Robusta. Most coffee is made from Arabica . Robusta ,as its name suggests, has more caffeine is is a bit more bitter.


Coffee is the original freeze-dried food! The process of freeze drying first started during World War II to preserve foods.

The majority of coffee is produced in Brazil which produces 40% of the world’s coffee

Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. that commercially grows coffee. Can you say Kona?

Coffee helps a garden grow! Coffee grounds sprinkled on the ground around plants in the garden will stop snails and slugs from eating the plants.

Coffee is actually good for you! More and more studies show the health benefits of coffee including improved cognitive function, prevention of disease and even fat burning qualities. The Mayo Clinic reports coffee’s benefits outweigh its risks, citing caffeine in coffee may help protect brain cells from damage which can cause Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Antioxidants in coffee can prevent liver disease and coffee’s caffeine can speed up metabolism and fat burning.


The average coffee drinker has 3 cups of coffee per day. Yup that’s me! How about you?
